Caution I’m gonna drop a serious knowledge bomb on you!
This is like finding the fountain of youth! Jim Koch, the co-owner of the Boston Beer Co (Boston Lager) just revealed the biggest kept secret in life to esquire magazine. What’s the secret:
Yes the stuff that makes bread rise and turns sugar into alcohol in beer.
Jim says he learned the trick from an old friends so that he could sample and drink beer all day without getting wasted. There’s a secret formula to it… Here it is:
One teaspoon of regular bread yeast per beer, right before you start drinking… Koch mixes his with yogurt to make it easier to eat.
If you’re wondering how, or why it works? There’s some chemistry at work. Active dry yeast has an enzyme in it called alcohol dehydrogenases (ADH). Simply put, ADH is able to break alcohol molecules down into their constituent parts of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Which is what happens when your body metabolizes alcohol in your liver. If you have that enzyme in your stomach when the alcohol first hits it, the ADH will begin breaking it down before it gets into your bloodstream and, thus, your brain.
With that said it doesn’t completely stop you from getting drunk, it slows it down… But no matter what you shouldn’t ever over drink and especially don’t drink and drive.
